Based at either the University Centre Park Lane, Teacher Development Centre (Park Lane Campus), or Quarry Hill campus, you’ll be just a stone’s throw away from Leeds’ much-loved cafes, bars, restaurants and shops. 

Entry Requirements:

Each option below refers to what you typically need to achieve at that qualification level to progress on to a master’s degree. 

  • BA/BSc, BEng (hons) degree – 2:2 or above in a relevant subject. 
  • Professional/vocational qualifications – Candidates who have completed a relevant professional or vocational qualification equivalent to Level 7 credits may be eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). 
  • International qualifications – Assessed against the above criteria. 
  • Speakers of other languages – IELTS score of at least 6.0 (with no less than 5.5 in any one pathway) or recognised Level 2 English qualification. 

PGCEs (Full-Time) 

  • BA/BSc (hons) – 2:2 or equivalent. If your degree isn’t in your main teaching area, you will be required to hold at least a minimum of NVQ (NQF) Level 3 in your vocational area. 
  • YA level – Two at grade D or equivalent. 
  • GCSE – Five subjects, including three at grade 4 or above which must include English and maths. 
  • Attend and successfully pass an interview. 
  • Satisfactory enhanced check for regulated activity with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). 

PGCEs (Part-Time) 

The same level of qualifications as the pre-service PGCE but you will also have a minimum of 50 hours of teaching experience. 

Cert Ed (Part-Time) 

As above but you will be required to hold a minimum of NVQ (NQF) Level 3 in your vocational area.

Each option below refers to what you typically need to achieve at that qualification level to progress on to a BA (Hons) top-up degree. 

  • Foundation degree – 50% or above in a relevant subject from a UK institution 
  • HND – a Merit profile in a relevant subject 
  • GCSE – a number at grade 4 minimum, preferably including English and maths 
  • International qualifications – assessed against the above criteria 
  • Speakers of other languages – IELTS score of at least 6.0 (with no less than 5.5 in any one pathway) or a recognised Level 2 English qualification

Fees and Funding

Masters Students

If a sponsor is paying your fees, you should let us know their details when you enrol. This information should be provided at the start of each year of study. If you’re self-funding your studies, you’ll need to pay your fees directly to our Finance team. You can pay in instalments, depending on the amount and duration of your studies. 

If you’re funding your studies with a loan, your loan provider may pay your fees directly to University Centre Leeds or to yourself depending on which loan scheme you apply for. You can pay in instalments that align to your loan payment dates, depending on the amount or duration of your studies. If you are a new student starting a postgraduate masters course, you could get a Postgraduate Master’s Loan of up to £11,222 to help with course fees and living costs. PGCE Students 

A tuition fee loan can be obtained from the Student Loans Company (SLC) and this will be paid directly to University Centre Leeds. Maintenance loan instalments are paid by the Student Loans Company (SLC) by bank transfer directly into your bank account. The SLC will make the first payment once we’ve informed them that you have enrolled with us.
