At University Centre Leeds we are committed to creating positive experiences for all and in working collaboratively to support our staff and students towards healthy lives and sustainable careers.
Our Commitment:
We will continue to grow a culture which is inclusive, and one which values and respects the diversity of our students and staff. We will continue to provide opportunities for wider access into HE or higher skills programmes whilst providing enhanced and tailored support for our students.
We will continue to cultivate transformational relationships through honest, personable and contactable staff practices. We will prioritise a sense of belonging , ensuring our students and staff feel included and that they matter, within a vibrant and diverse learning community.
We will continue to enhance our student attributes and produce great graduates/practitioners who are employable in their respective sectors. Our staff and students’ wellbeing will be at the forefront of our processes and practices and we will endeavour to do what we can to support our students’ mental wellbeing through the challenges that come with studying.
We will continue to value and respect our staff and support their wellbeing. We want our staff to feel happy to come into work each day and have extensive and progressive careers with us.
We will adopt an open mindset and encourage students to do the same. We will motivate them to become confident, courageous individuals who are not averse to grasping opportunities.

Initiatives
Specialist Support for a Diverse Community
We recognise that students may face different barriers throughout their academic journey, which is why we offer specialist support tailored to the needs of our diverse community. Find out about the range of information and support available for students from underrepresented groups within higher education, including mature students, care experienced students, estranged students, student carers and more. Our dedicated teams are here to ensure all students feel supported, valued and empowered to succeed throughout their studies.
Disability Support
The University Centre Leeds Disability Support Team ensure that students receive the right support, adjustments, advice and guidance to help students succeed with their studies. Many students’ support needs are met through adjustments to teaching and learning, for example by having lecture notes and other materials being made available in advance of classes or extensions to assignment deadlines. Race Equality Charter Bronze Award (Advance HE)
We affirm our commitment to equality through several internal and external charters, memberships and activities, which hold us accountable for key actions and progress. The Race Equality Charter (REC) is a sector-led charter that higher education institutions voluntarily participate in to advance race equality, with the aim of improving the representation, experiences, progression and success of staff and students from racially minoritised ethnic groups. It covers all aspects of an institution’s activity and communities, including considering the representation and experiences of academic and research staff; professional, technical and operational staff; and students at all levels.
Luminate Education Group, of which Leeds Conservatoire is a member, has been awarded Race Equality Charter Bronze as part of a pilot project to develop a pathway for the Race Equality Charter (REC) to small and specialist institutions and research institutes. The achievement represents a significant milestone in the efforts of Leeds Conservatoire in our ambitions to advance equality in our context. The award is recognition of our robust foundation for eliminating racial inequalities, developing inclusive cultures, and moving from commitment to sustainable, integrated, and ambitious action.
